INDIANAPOLIS -- Loyola sophomore midfielder Moriah Schwarz (Rockford, Ill.) is the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Detroit junior goalkeeper Nora Abolins (Demorestville, Ontario, Canada) has earned Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 8-14. The award is the first of Schwarz’ career and the second of the season for Abolins.

Loyola (7-7-2, 2-2-1 Horizon) split results on the week, suffering a 2-1 setback to Milwaukee in double overtime before rebounding to knock off Youngstown State, 2-0, on Sunday. Detroit (7-6-1, 4-2-0 Horizon) moved into first place in the Horizon League after a 1-0 victory at Wright State and a 2-0 triumph over Cleveland State.

Schwarz was the Ramblers’ catalyst throughout the week, scoring all three of Loyola’s goals. The sophomore had the tying goal at Milwaukee, sending the match into overtime. Schwarz posted goals in both halves of the Ramblers’ win at YSU. The three goals on the week were the first three of the year for the midfielder.

Abolins tallied her sixth and seventh shutouts of the year for the Titans, recording 10 saves across the two matches. The shutouts gave the junior four in six conference matches. With 22 career shutouts in 48 starts, Abolins is one shy of tying the Detroit career mark.

With a 0.60 goals-against average, Abolins ranks second in the Horizon League. Her six shutouts are tied for second with two other keepers.

Loyola will head to northwest Indiana on Wednesday, Oct. 17, to take on Valparaiso in its lone match of the week. The match will start at 4 p.m. ET. Detroit will also play a single match this week, hosting Madonna on Friday, Oct. 19, at 3 p.m. ET.
