INDIANAPOLIS - UIC senior Sebastian Lystad and sophomore Mariya Kovaleva have been named Horizon League Tennis Players of the Week for the period of April 12-18.

Lystad, a native of Oslo, Norway, went 4-0 over the weekend. He posted No. 1 singles wins against Horizon League foes Butler (7-6 (6), 6-4) and Wright State (6-4, 7-6 (1)). Lystad also paired with Nate Kirk to register 8-1 (BU) and 8-3 (WSU) doubles wins.

Kovaleva, a native of Almaty, Kazakhstan, helped UIC pick up two conference wins on the week. She defeated Butler (6-4, 6-0) on Saturday and Wright State (6-0, 6-0) on Sunday at No. 1 singles. Kovaleva also teamed with Kristen McPhillips to pick up a win at No. 1 doubles (8-6) at Wright State

The 2010 Horizon League Tennis Championships kick off this Friday at North Central High School in Indianapolis, Ind. The No. 2 seeded UIC men will compete at 10:30 a.m. and the No. 1 seeded UIC women are set to play at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday in the second round of the tournament. The men's championship match will be played at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, while the women's championship match will take place at 12:30 p.m.
