BROOKLYN, N.Y. – University of Detroit Mercy point guard Ray McCallum (Beverly Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day) became the 22nd Titan to be drafted, as he was selected with the 36th pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings on Thursday night.

McCallum is the fourth player from the Horizon League to be selected into the NBA Draft since 2010, joining Gordon Hayward (Utah), Norris Cole (Miami via Chicago) and Shelvin Mack (Washington).

McCallum is the first Titan to ever be selected by Sacramento, and will join Willie Green (LA Clippers) in the Western Conference. McCallum is also the highest Titan selected in the NBA Draft since the Detroit Pistons drafted fellow Titans Terry Tyler (23) and John Long (29) in the 1978 draft.

McCallum, the 2013 Horizon League Player of the Year and Lute Olson All-American, helped lead Detroit to its second-straight postseason appearance with a trip to the NIT, along with recording its second-straight 20 win season finishing 20-13 overall.

Picked the Horizon League Preseason Player of the Year in both 2011 and 2012, McCallum led the Horizon League in scoring with 19.2 ppg, ranking 22nd nationally. Running the point for the No. 2-seeded Titans, McCallum handed out 4.7 assists per game while grabbing 5.1 rebounds and 1.8 steals. The junior was the first player since fellow Titan Rashad Phillips in 2000-01 to earn both preseason and postseason Player of the Year.
