AUSTIN, Tex. - Freshman Emily McClellan of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's swimming team wrapped up the weekend with three swims at the NCAA Championships at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
McClellan, who became the first-ever female in Horizon League history and the first-ever Panther swimmer to compete at the NCAA Championship meet, swam in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke and the 200 IM over the three-day meet.
Her highest finish in the preliminaries came in the 100 breast, placing 35th in 1:01.85. She was 48th in the 200 breast at 2:15.30 and also placed 54th in the 200 IM, touching the wall in 2:03.14.
"We had a great week in Austin," UWM head coach Kyle Clements said. "The team and staff are very proud of Emily and what she was able to accomplish. She had another outstanding meet and she represented herself, UWM and the Horizon league very well. She was not quite as fast this week as she was at the Horizon League meet, but the times that she posted would still have beaten all the league records and would have been personal bests for her as well if it wasn't for the times that she put up in February. Emily, like this team, has a very bright future and a lot more NCAA meets ahead."
Also, the final mid-major poll from CollegeSwimming.com/CSCAA was released last week and both Milwaukee swimming & diving teams remained in the Top 25 at season's end. The men, coming off a repeat Horizon League Championship, ended up No. 19, while the women, who finished second at the league meet, finished at No. 24.
According to CollegeSwimming.com, the dual meet rankings use an objective point system to compare teams' relative strength in a traditional 16-event dual line-up. They do not reflect a team's ultimate finish at the NCAA Championships.
