CLEVELAND – After the first day of competition at the 2011 Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships, the Phoenix lead the women while the Vikings are leading the pack for the men.
Green Bay women totaled 123 points at the end of the first day, with Deanna Degrand winning the 1000 Freestyle (10:09.99). Milwaukee trails with 100 points and Cleveland State is third, breaking two championship records in both the 200 Freestyle Relay(1:31.63) and 200 Medley Relay (1:41.77). Youngstown State’s Casey Hill won the Three-Meter diving with a score of 284.20.
Mark de Swardt led the Vikings on the men’s side, winning the 1000 Free (9:06.34) for the third straight year, helping Cleveland State earn 122 points. Cleveland State also set a Championship record in the 200 Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:19.36. Milwaukee trails with 111 points and UIC is close behind with 106 points, winning the 200 Medley Relay (1:28.90).
Action begins again on Thursday morning at 10:00am (EST) with prelims and finals following at 5:30pm.
