(#4 seed) Loyola 76, (#9 seed) Youngstown State 61
Chicago, Ill. (AP) - Blake Schilb had 23 points, six rebounds and four assists as host Loyola advanced to the second round of the Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship with a 76-61 victory over Youngstown State on Tuesday night.

Leon Young hit a pair of free throws, Schilb sank a 3-pointer as the shot clock expired and Chris Logan added a free throw to put the Ramblers ahead 69-54 going into the final two minutes of the game.

The Penguins had come within nine behind Quin Humphrey - who had 19 of his team-high 22 points in the second half - after Loyola built a 32-17 edge at intermission, capitalizing on 29 percent shooting by the Penguins and outrebounding Youngstown State 23-11 in the first half.

Logan had 18 points to back up Schilb, and Young finished with 12, including all 10 of his free throw attempts. The Ramblers outshot Youngstown State 24-6 from the free throw line. Loyola also hit 12 of 16 second-half field goal tries to put them at 58 percent shooting for the game. The Penguins finished at 39 percent.

Youngstown State ended its season at 7-21 and on a nine-game losing streak.

Loyola, which will face Detroit in Friday's quarterfinals, improved to 18-10 - the most wins the Ramblers have recorded since the 1985 team went 27-6 to reach the NCAA quarterfinals.

Detroit, Mich. (AP) - Ben Green scored a career-high 15 points and Jon Goode added 14 to help host Detroit rout Cleveland State 92-58 on Tuesday in the first round of the Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship.

The victory sends the Titans (16-15), the tournament's No. 5 seed, to Friday's second round in Milwaukee.

J'Nathan Bullock scored 17 points and Raheem Moss and Carlos English had 11 each for the eighth-seeded Vikings (10-18), who lost to Detroit for the fifth time in six tournament meetings and fell to 0-19 at Calihan Hall.

The Titans outscored Cleveland State 17-4 in the first 6 minutes of the second half to push their lead past 20 points. Chuck Bailey had 13 points and a career-high 16 rebounds as Detroit outrebounded the Vikings 40-19 and outscored them 40-22 in the paint.

Detroit, which scored more than 90 points for the first time since the 2003-04 season, also got 10 points apiece from Brandon Cotton and Torvoris Baker.

The Titans opened the game with a 13-0 run and led 40-29 at halftime. Bailey's dozen first-half rebounds matched the Vikings' total.

Chicago, Ill. - Rocky Collum scored 21 points on 6-of-6 shooting Tuesday night to lead host UIC in a 77-64 win over Wright State in the first round of the Horizon League Men's Basketball Championship.

Justin Bowen scored 19 points for UIC (16-14), which used 56 percent shooting in the first half to build a 44-27 lead at the break. The Flames also made 28 of 29 free throw attempts in the game. Danijel Zoric and Josh Mayo scored 14 points and 12 points, respectively, in the win.

DaShaun Wood led the Wright State attack, scoring 17 points with seven assists. Wood connected on two 3-pointers and added three steals for the Raiders (13-15). Tyrone Scott and Jordan Pleiman chipped in 13 points each for Wright State, but the Raiders could not overcome the 17-point halftime deficit, despite outscoring Illinois-Chicago in the second.

The win advances the Flames to the tournament's second round, where they will meet Wisconsin-Green Bay on Friday afternoon.
