The nine-week Horizon League regular season will begin on Saturday, Jan. 2, 2016, the conference office announced on Thursday.
Each of the 10 Horizon League teams will play the others twice - for a total of 18 conference games - with the League regular season finishing on Sunday, Feb. 28.
The opening day of League play will feature all 10 teams in action, including conference newcomer Northern Kentucky which will play its first Horizon League contest at last season's tournament runner-up Green Bay. The Norse will host their first conference game on Saturday, Jan. 9 when they welcome Wright State to BB&T Arena.
Last season's regular season and tournament champion, Valparaiso begins its title defense by hosting UIC on Saturday, Jan. 2. The Crusaders will hit the road for the first time in League play when they travel to Oakland to play the Golden Grizzlies on Friday, Jan. 8. That game will either tip at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN2 or at 9 p.m. ET on ESPNU as the Horizon League will have two games on the ESPN network that evening. The UIC at Detroit game will also be shown on ESPN2 or ESPNU that Friday.
The final weeks of the League schedule bring many television opportunities for the HL teams.
The Horizon League was given a TV window on the Monday of President's Day, Feb. 15, and will have either the Milwaukee at Green Bay game or Oakland at Wright State on ESPNU at 5 p.m. ET. The game that does not get selected for ESPNU will tip off at 7 p.m. local time and be on ESPN3.
On Friday, Feb. 19, the Oakland at Valparaiso game will once again be televised, this time on ESPNU with a tip time of 8 p.m. ET.
On the final Friday of the season, the Horizon League will have a doubleheader with one game on ESPN2 at 7 p.m. ET and another game on ESPNU at 9 p.m. ET. The two games that will be televised are Detroit at Oakland and Valparaiso at Milwaukee.
The 2016 Horizon League men's basketball tournament will be played at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit from Saturday, March 5 through Tuesday, March 8. The tournament semifinals on Monday will both be televised on ESPNU, while Tuesday's Championship Game will be shown on ESPN at 7 p.m. ET.
