Championship seedings starting to take shape

With just two weeks and three Horizon League games remaining for most teams, the seedings for the 2009 Men's Basketball Championship have started to take form.

* Five teams -- Butler, Green Bay, Cleveland State, Wright State and Milwaukee -- have clinched at least a first-round home game. (Youngstown State is in sixth place and can clinch a home game with a victory Wednesday at Cleveland State or with losses by UIC, Loyola and Valparaiso that night.)

* Butler, Green Bay, CSU and WSU are all in the running for at least a share of the regular-season title. (All could potentially finish in a four-way tie at 13-5.)

* Butler can clinch at least a share of the regular-season title Wednesday with a victory at Milwaukee or a Green Bay loss to Valparaiso. A Butler victory, coupled with a Green Bay loss, would give the Bulldogs the outright title and no. 1 seed for the League championship.

Speaking RPI

According to "The RPI Report," the Horizon League is ranked 11th among the 31 Division I conferences in RPI entering this week's games, just behind the Missouri Valley and ahead of the WAC (12th), Metro Atlantic (13th), Colonial (14th), West Coast (15th) and Mid-American (21st), among others.

Butler was 21st nationally in RPI and joined in the top 100 by Green Bay (72nd), Cleveland State (73rd), with Wright State (94th).
