HORIZON LEAGUE NEWS AND NOTES
BUTLER HAVING BEST SEASON SINCE 2004: No. 24 Butler has won five of its last six outings, including three straight. The Bulldogs' 10 victories on the season are the most for Butler since 2004. BU has a 15-3-2 record in its last 20 matches dating back to last season.
PATANO CONTINUES TO MAKE HIS MARK: Senior Frank Patano picked up two assists in Butler's victory over IUPUI last week, boosting his career scoring total to 77 points. Patano, who currently leads the Horizon League with 21 points, stands sixth on Butler's all-time career scoring list.
HEGEMAN SHUTTING OUT THE COMPETITION: Goalkeeper Nick Hegeman recorded his sixth shutout of the season in Butler's victory over IUPUI, moving him into a tie for fourth place with Frank Peabody (2005) and Alan Placek (1996) on Butler's single-season list for shutouts. Hegeman stands seventh on Butler's all-time career list for shutouts with seven.
CSU HAS HOME FIELD ADVANTAGE: After opening the season by playing nine of its first 10 matches on the road, Cleveland State has won all four of its home matches over the last three weeks. CSU has at least one more home contest left, this Saturday's meeting with Wright State. It's also possible that the Vikings could host a Horizon League Championship match on Nov. 9.
BEST STREAK SINCE 1986: With consecutive wins over Green Bay, Milwaukee, IPFW, Valparaiso and Detroit, the Cleveland State has won five consecutive matches for the first time since winning five straight contests in the middle of the 1986 season. Going back even farther, the last time CSU won more than five straight came in 1979 when CSU won eight in a row to start a stretch that saw the Vikings go 11-0-1 as part of a 14-3-2 season.
DETROIT HAS SEASON-BEST PERFORMANCE: Detroit defeated Western Michigan, 3-1, last week, and it was statistically the Titans' most thorough performance of the season. Not only did the team tie its season high for goals (vs. Xavier on Sept. 21), but UDM outshot WMU, 23-9, while holding a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
SUSJNA LEADING THE TITANS: Senior Renato Susnja, who scored in the first half of Detroit's win over Western Michigan, now leads the team in goals (3) and points (8).

CRUSADERS FIND A QUICK STRIKE VS. IPFW: Valparaiso scored just 47 seconds into its 3-1 win over IPFW last Sunday, with sophomore Zack Stivers finding the back of the net. It was the Crusaders' earliest goal of the season.
