Scott Olsen
Butler, Junior, Midfielder/Forward, Chicago, Ill.
Scott Olsen of Butler has been selected the Horizon League Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 4.
Olsen continued to be the hottest Bullldog with two goals and an assist in Butler's back-to-back victories over Wright State and UIC. Olsen nailed the lone goal of the match in Butler's 1-0 victory at Wright State with a shot from 10 yards out at 87:03. Three days later, he tallied a goal and an assist in Butler's 4-3 win over UIC. His goal came at 49:16 on a header off a cross from Aaron Thompson, and he later picked up an assist on a goal by Cory Edgington. The two goals gave him seven for the season, while the assist boosted his 2004 total to five.

Amir Kettani
Cleveland State, Senior, Goalkeeper, Kirtland, Ohio
Amir posted eight saves to earn his first shutout of the season in a 0-0 draw with Niagara on Wednesday. The senior then came back to make nine saves and hold Wright State scoreless for almost 80 minutes on Sunday. The goalie has been impressive all year, quick off his line, and quick to communicate with his defense.
Andrew Ornoch
Detroit, Sophomore, Midfielder, Toronto, Ontario
Sophomore Andrew Ornoch fashioned together a strong effort in two games last week as he helped guide the Titans to a perfect 2-0 mark. In those contests, he registered a goal, an assist on five shots. His tally against UW-Green Bay proved to be the game-winner in helping the Titans to a 2-1 triumph over the Phoenix. He finished the tilt with four shots, including three on net while registering his third goal of the season. He followed that effort by adding his second assist of the year on Ablaye Camara's tally in a 4-1 win over Western Illinois. For the campaign, Ornoch ranks second on the team in goals (3), assists (2), points (8), shots (23), shots on goal (19) and game-winners (1). In four conference tilts, he is leading the Titans in goals (2), points (4), shots on goal (6) and game-winners (1) while rating second in shots (10).
Eric Cervantes
UIC, Sophomore, Midfielder/Forward, Hoffman Estates, Ill.
The Flames have become more aggressive on offense thanks to Cervantes, a second-year forward who has made a significant impact since returning on Sept. 15th. Cervantes scored the game-winning goal at Loyola on Sept. 29th with a solid header; the Hoffman Estates native also tabbed an assist on one of Kenneth Nightingale's two goals. At Butler on Oct. 3rd, Cervantes scored an unassisted beauty created by his speed on the right side, marking the third straight contest that he has notched a goal. In his last three games, Cervantes has put up three goals and seven points, tying him for the team lead in both categories.
Eric Spiess
Loyola, Junior, Midfielder, Glen Ellyn, Ill.
Junior midfielder Eric Spiess took over the team lead in goals this week, firing home his fourth of the season in Loyola's 3-1 loss to Western Michigan. Spiess neatly finished a low cross from Mark Eckerle to give the Ramblers a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute of the eventual loss.
Josh Okoampa
UW-Green Bay, Sophomore, Forward, Brooklyn Park, Minn.
Okoampa scored both goals for the Phoenix in a 1-1 week on the road, to give the sophomore forward the team lead in scoring with five goals this season. Against Western Michigan, Okoampa scored the game-winner in the 10th minute for his second match-winning score of the season. Against Detroit Oct. 1, Okoampa shook the nets first, giving the Phoenix a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute. On the year, Okoampa has scored on five of his eight shots on goal.
Jason Tackis
Wright State, Senior, Forward, Fairborn, Ohio
Jason took five shots this week which all required a goalie save giving him five shots on goal and the game winner in a comeback victory against Cleveland State. Tackis, one of the Raiders fast attacking forwards, broke out of a scramble in front of the net and netted the game winner in the 81st minute.
HORIZON LEAGUE NEWS & NOTES
Butler Bulldogs (8-3, 3-0 HL)
Junior Scott Olsen stands in ninth place on Butler's all-time list for goals scored with 17 in his two-plus seasons. He's tied for ninth on Butler's all-time assist chart with 14.
Goalkeeper Frank Peabody, playing in place of injured Evan Reinhardt, recorded his first career shutout in Butler's victory at Wright State.
Butler's current seven-match winning streak matches the longest win streak of head coach Joe Sochacki's tenure. Butler's school record is nine straight wins in 1998.
Cleveland State Vikings (3-4-2, 0-1-1 HL)
Cleveland State is 2-0-1 at home this year, with both matches this week coming at home.
Spencer Lappin has seven goals already this season, and has more goals than the rest of the team combined.
All but one of Cleveland State's matches this year have been decided by a goal or less.
Detroit Titans (6-4, 2-2 HL)
The Titans have now won their last three matches and with their 4-1 victory over Western Illinois extended their non-conference home unbeaten streak to 13 games.
In its lone contest this week, Detroit will be in search of their first victory at Wright State since the 1994 campaign when the squad travels to Fairborn, Ohio.
Expect the contest to be close as the last six tilts between the two schools have been decided by one goal.
UIC Flames (2-8-1, 1-2-1 HL)
UIC heads into a much-needed four-game homestand beginning this Sunday after playing nine of their first 11 contests on the road.
The Flames are 4-11-2 all-time against UW-Milwaukee. Last year at the Panthers' daunting Engelmann Field, the Flames pulled out a nice 2-2 tie thanks to a Dennis King penalty kick goal and Pete Kelley's left-footed score in the 67th minute that tied the game.
Sophomore Eric Cervantes has been an energizing force on offense since returning from injury on Sept. 15th, tallying three goals and seven points in his last three matches.
Kenneth Nightingale had a career game against Loyola this past Wednesday, tabbing two goals while just missing on two other close-range shots.
Loyola Ramblers (1-9-1, 0-3 HL)
The Ramblers have a relatively easy schedule with one contest this week at Big Ten foe Michigan State. Loyola went 0-3 last week with a loss to league and crosstown rival UIC, 3-2, before falling to Western Michigan and Notre Dame.
Eric Spiess leads the Ramblers and is tied for fifth in the Horizon League with four goals this season, while teammate Mark Eckerle is tied for third in the league with three assists on the year.
UW-Green Bay Phoenix (4-5-1, 1-1 HL)
The Phoenix will host instate rival Marquette Wednesday, Oct. 6 before a road game against Cleveland State Saturday, Oct. 9.
Junior goalkeeper Pat Czuprynski made four saves in UW-Green Bay's 1-0 shutout of Western Michigan Oct. 3. The shutout was his third of the season, dropping his GAA to 1.21 on the year. Over the past four games, Czuprynski owns a 0.71 GAA.
Chris Knepper, a redshirt freshman walk-on, made his first collegiate start against Western Michigan Oct. 3. The South Milwaukee, Wis. native has seen action in nine contests this season as a defender.
UW-Milwaukee Panthers (3-2-3, 1-0 HL)
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's soccer team has been giving fans more soccer than they pay for thus far in 2004. Including Sunday's 1-1 tie with Bradley, UWM has now gone to overtime in four of its eight games this season.
The four overtime contests are the most since the 1999 squad played six OT contests.
Wright State Raiders (5-5, 2-1 HL)
After another week at .500 the Raiders are pleased with a 2-1 record in the Horizon League. Fresh off a late charging defeat at home against Cleveland State when the Raiders scored two goals within three minutes to down a tough CSU team. Also the Raiders now have four players with three or more goals, Ricky Strong (6), Winston Marshall (3), Jason Tackis (3) and Tony Labudovski (3).
