MEN'S SOCCER PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Kenneth Nightingale
UIC, Sophomore, Forward, Evanston, Ill.
Kenneth Nightingale of UIC has been selected the Horizon League Men's Soccer Player of the Week for Oct. 25.

Nightingale continued to shine in 2004 with a goal and an assist in UIC's huge 3-1 win over UW-Green Bay on Sunday. The sophomore forward created the Flames' first goal by dribbling out of a crowd of defenders and finding Pavle Dundjer, who whisked the ball quickly to an open Derek Kosek for a score. Then Nightingale knocked home the game winner with a nifty boot through a scrum of players in front of the Phoenix goal to give UIC sole possession of fourth place and a great chance to host a Horizon League Tournament match. Nightingale now has four goals, including two game-winning scores, along with a team-leading 12 points.

Amir Kettani
Cleveland State, Senior, Goalkeeper, Kirtland, Ohio
Amir made a save in a 4-1 loss to Detroit on Wednesday, but came back to post 13 saves, including a save on a penalty kick, in a 2-0 loss to Butler. The senior leads the league in saves per game.

Jason Massoglia
Detroit, Sophomore, Defensemen, Troy, Mich.
Turning in a pair of stellar efforts, sophomore defender Jason Massoglia played a big role in helping Detroit post a 2-0 week while in the process extending its winning streak to a school record eight games. On a wet and sloppy pitch at Cleveland State, Massogolia turned in a two-goal effort in helping the Titans secure their first road win (4-1) versus the Vikings since 1998. His first career multi-tally effort allowed UDM to secure a home Horizon League Championship tilt for the second straight season. He finished the tilt with a game-high four shots, including two on goal. Massoglia wrapped the week by recording one shot in the Titans' 4-1 victory at IUPUI. For the season, he ranks third on the team in goals (4), shots (24), shots on goal (12) and game-winners (1) while sitting fourth in points (8).

Josh Okoampa
UW-Green Bay, Sophomore, Forward, Brooklyn Park, Minn.
Okoampa scored his ninth goal of the season and his sixth in seven games against UIC Oct. 24.

Eric Mickschl
UW-Milwaukee, Sophomore, Goalkeeper, Glendale, Wis.
UWM sophomore goalkeeper Eric Mickschl continues to put up solid numbers in goal for the surging Panthers. This past week Mickschl played all 180 in a pair of Milwaukee shutouts. The sophomore held 11-win Northern Illinois to no goals while making four saves in a 1-0 victory on Friday before coming back to stop five Loyola shots in UWM's 5-0 blanking of the Ramblers on Sunday. For the week Mickschl made nine saves while going 2-0 with a 0.00 goals against average. For the season, the Glendale, Wis. native leads the Horizon League and ranks in the top 15 nationally with a 0.682 GAA. In league only games, Mickschl has allowed just one goal in 270 minutes for a0.333 GAA.

HORIZON LEAGUE NEWS & NOTES

Butler Bulldogs (11-4-1, 5-0 HL)
Senior goalkeeper Evan Reinhardt recorded his second shutout of the season in Butler's 2-0 victory over Cleveland State. It was the ninth shutout of his career. He stands fifth on Butler's all-time list for shutouts.

The Bulldogs tied Butler's school record for shots with 37 against Cleveland State. That tied the mark set against Eastern Illinois in 1995. Butler had 15 shots on goal against the Vikings.

Senior Cory Edgington tied the second-highest single match total for shots with a career-high 11 attempts against Cleveland State. Edgington had six shots on goal in the match.

Cleveland State Vikings (5-9-2, 0-5-1 HL)
The Vikings' 4-1 loss to Detroit wrapped up a six-match homestand, a stretch that saw CSU go 2-4.

Amir Kettani posted 13 saves, including a save on a penalty kick, in Cleveland State's 2-0 loss to Butler on Sunday.

All but three of Cleveland State's matches this year have been decided by a goal or less.

Detroit Titans (11-4, 4-2 HL)
Courtesy of his career hat trick, sophomore Andrew Ornoch helped the Titans extend their winning streak to a school-record eight games with a 4-1 victory at IUPUI.

A two-goal explosion from sophomore Jason Massoglia gave Detroit its first victory at Cleveland State since 1998 while also allowing the Red, White and Blue to secure a home tournament contest for the second consecutive season.

The Titans will face a challenging week as the squad will travel to Loyola on Friday (Oct. 29) before returning home for their cross-town shootout with rival Oakland. Detroit will be in search of their first win over Oakland since 1998.

UIC Flames (4-9-2, 3-2-1 HL)
UIC goalkeeper Jeff Engelbrecht continues to pace between the posts with consistently strong results, totaling 66 saves and a 1.75 goals-against-average. The Flames will face Marshall for the first time ever.

UIC will then take on Wright State, who leads the all-time series 7-5-2. The Raiders and Flames last met in last season's Horizon League Tournament quarterfinals, with Wright State taking a 1-0 double-overtime win in Chicago. The two teams had squared off at Flames Field during the regular season less than two weeks prior to that game, as UIC used Eric Cervantes' golden goal in the second overtime to take a 2-1 victory.

Loyola Ramblers (2-13-1, 1-5 HL)
The Ramblers dropped two contests this past week as they fell at home to Northwestern (2-1), before falling to UW-Milwaukee (5-0). Loyola travels to Marshall on Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. before closing out its Horizon League schedule on Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. at Wright State.

UW-Green Bay Phoenix (5-8-2, 2-3-1 HL)
The Phoenix will wrap up the regular season at Phoenix Field, starting with Wisconsin Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 7:30 p.m. UW-Green Bay will then take on Butler Sunday, Oct. 31 at noon.

With his assist against UIC Oct. 24, senior midfielder Brandon Steenlage surpassed his career scoring total heading into 2004. Steenlage, who is fourth on the team in scoring this fall with six points, had five points on two goals and an assist over three seasons.

UW-Milwaukee Panthers (7-4-3, 4-1 HL)
The Panthers won their fourth-straight match this past week as they defeated Northern Illinois, 1-0, and league-foe Loyola, 5-0, this past weekend. This week, UW-Milwaukee hosts in-city rival Marquette on Wednesday, before welcoming league-leading Butler on Friday afternoon. The Panthers close out their regular-season on Sunday as they host league-foe Cleveland State at noon.

Wright State Raiders (5-9-1, 2-3-1 HL)
Wright State had a light schedule this past week as it hosted Marshall on Friday. The Raiders lost a close contest, falling to the Thundering Herd, 3-2. Wright State travels to Oakland on Tuesday and close out its regular-season hosting Marquette on Friday night and UIC on Sunday afternoon.
