INDIANAPOLIS, IND - University of Wisconsin-Green Bay senior Ryan Miller (cross country) and Cleveland State University sophomore Liz Fazio (women's volleyball) have been named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Week, League commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Wednesday (September 5).

Miller finished 19th overall at the UIC Home Opener on Saturday, (Sept. 1) with a time of 22:04 in the 4.1-mile race. His time earned him sixth place among Horizon League runners, and his first-ever top finish for Green Bay.

In the classroom, Miller owns a 3.79 grade-point average in communications and the arts. He has also merited a spot on the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll, and helped his team post a 3.25 GPA, the highest of any men's team at Green Bay last year.

Fazio helped the Vikings to a 2-1 record over the week by hitting .266, and recording 14 digs, five aces, and three blocks. Her weekend effort earned her a berth on the All-Tournament team at the Kentucky Invitational, where she registered 27 kills, nine digs and four aces as CSU swept Austin Peay and Georgetown to open the tournament.

Academically, Fazio carries a 3.91 grade-point average as a biology major. In 2006, she earned a spot on both the Academic All-League team, and the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll.

The Horizon League instituted the Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution and passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours, and perform well during the week's competition.
