LISLE, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men and Youngstown State University women captured the 2009 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Sunday at Benedictine University. Milwaukee's men's crown was its sixth straight, while Youngstown State's women's title was its fifth in the past six years.

Milwaukee (197 points) sailed past seven League opponents on the men's side -- Youngstown State (167), Butler University (93), the University of Illinois at Chicago (72), the University of Detroit Mercy (46), Loyola University Chicago (45), Valparaiso University (29) and Wright State University (0).

Youngstown State (208 points) rolled past seven conference foes on the women's side -- Milwaukee (180), UIC (68), Loyola (68), Detroit (52), Wright State (46), Valparaiso (15) and Butler (14).

A total of 12 Horizon League Outdoor Championship Meet records were set or tied during the three-day event -- six on the men's side and six more on the women's side.

Milwaukee set a standard in the men's 4x400 relay (3:10.82), while Panther juniors Tyler Bucholz (200 meter, 21.23), Isaiah Adams (400 meter, 47.11) and Quinn Mongoven (high jump, 2.11 meters) set records in their respective events, and UWM freshman Ben Crogan tied a standard his (pole vault, 4.90 meters).

Butler junior Steve Lisgo added a meet record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (8:51.49).

Youngstown State set a new measuring stick in the women's 4x400 relay (3:45.72), while the five individual records covered four different schools.

Milwaukee junior Kelsey Conrad (200 meter, 24.20), UWM junior Erin Havener (pole vault, 3.85 meters), Wright State freshman Cassandra Lloyd (100-meter hurdles, 13.79), Loyola freshman Devin Gosberry (400 meter, 54.33) and Youngstown State junior Alisha Anthony (triple jump, 12.28 meters) broke women's records.

All five Horizon League men's individual records were also NCAA Regional Qualifying marks, plus the performances turned in by Youngstown State freshman Kiplangat Tisia in the steeplechase (8:59.18) and YSU senior Joe Lahmon in the hammer throw (58.62 meters).

In addition, Lloyd, Gosberry and Havener set NCAA Regional Qualifying marks in their respective events.

Adams and Conrad were named Most Outstanding Runners, while Tisia and Lloyd were honored as Running Newcomers of the Year.

Senior Aaron Merrill and sophomore Danielle Curry, who both recorded first-place efforts in the discus and shot put for Youngstown State, were named Most Outstanding Field Performers. Crogan and UIC freshman Aimee Schuh were then chosen as Field Event Newcomers of the Year.

Milwaukee's Pete Corfeld notched Men's Coach of the Year honors for the 2009 outdoor season, while Youngstown State's Brian Gorby earned Women's Coach of the Year accolades.
