Day Two Results

Milwaukee swimmers set two Championship and League records on Friday as the Panthers remained in the lead after the second day of the 2012 Swimming and Diving Championships held at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis.

The Panthers have opened up a 51.5 point lead on UIC in the men's championship, while Cleveland State remains on their heels on the women's side, trailing Milwaukee by just eight points, 295-287.

Sophomore Emily McClellan broke her own League record in the 200-IM as she won the finals in 1:59.84. In the final women’s event of the night, McClellan teamed up with Becky Yokosh, Diana Dial and Heidi Niespodzany to set the Championship and League record in the women’s 400-Medley Relay in a time of 3:41.23.

Green Bay’s Kendra Rottier, fresh off capturing the 1000-Free Wednesday evening, started Thursday’s finals by winning the 500-Free in a time of 4:52.88. UIC’s Daniel Corley won the men’s 500-Free in 4:27.42.

UIC’s Luke Martinez won the men’s 200-IM in 1:50.00, edging UWM’s Sam Keele by .74 seconds.

In sprints, Cleveland State’s Alice Sommerville won the women’s 50-Free in 23.12 while Wright State’s Hermanus Botha won the men’s 50-Free in 20.14. Botha’s 20.00 time in the 50-Free in prelims set a Championship record.

In the final swimming event of the night, Cleveland State won the men’s 400-IM in 3:18.24, edging Milwaukee by .34 of a second.

In the lone diving event of the night, Kacey Cummings of Cleveland State won the women’s 1-meter diving event with a score of 270.90.

Friday’s events at the 2012 Championships begin at 10:30 a.m. CT with swimming prelims in the 400-IM, 100-Fly, 200-Free, 100-Breast and 100-Back. Diving prelims for the men’s 1-meter event begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday’s finals begin at 6:30 p.m.
