Day Three Results

The Milwaukee men’s swimming and diving team extended its lead on Friday, while Milwaukee and Cleveland State are separated by just five points on the women’s side after day three of the Swimming and Diving Championships at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wis.

Milwaukee and Cleveland State traded the lead all night long with the Panthers leaving the day with a 509.5-504.5 lead with one day of events remaining.

In the men’s race, Milwaukee has stayed on top the whole meet, taking a 147.5 point lead into Saturday’s final day of competition. UIC and Cleveland State are in a tight battle for second place with the Flames holding a 505.5-502.5 lead over the Vikings.

During Friday’s competition, six Championship and League records were set with five coming on the women’s side. Green Bay’s Amber Bartholomew started Friday’s Finals with a new record in the 400-IM, finishing with a time of 4:18.62. Cleveland State’s Alex Johansson set a new mark in the 100-Fly with a time of :54.77. In the 100-Breast, Milwaukee’s Emily McClellan set a new League record and became an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Championships with a time of :59.25. In the final individual event of the evening, Youngstown State freshman Ashley Dow set a new League mark in the 100-Back with a time of :54.83.

The final two events of the night, the men’s and women’s 800-Free Relay, both had previous marks broken as Cleveland State set a women’s record with a time of 7:26.29 and Wright State set the men’s record with a time of 6:34.51.

Saturday marks the fourth and final day of competition at the 2012 Championships. In addition to the final events, there will be a ceremony recognizing the Seniors from all eight schools and an awards ceremony at the end of the night, honoring the 2012 Men’s and Women’s Swimmer of the Meet, Men’s and Women’s Diver of the Meet, Men’s and Women’s Athlete of the Year, Men’s and Women’s Newcomer of the Year, Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year and Men’s and Women’s Diving Coach of the Year.
