Milwaukee 3, Wright State 0
Nicole Latzig had 12 kills to lead three players in double figures as the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee claimed a 25-17, 25-19, 25-21 win over Wright State Friday night at McLin Gymnasium.

The Panthers (12-8, 8-0 Horizon) hit .301 in the match to win for the eighth-straight time.

Rachel Neuberger and Sammi Herron added 10 kills apiece while Kayla Price collected 36 assists for the Panthers, who have won six of their last seven matches in straight sets and have dropped just two sets in league play all season.

Latzig had a part in five of UWM's nine blocks to lead the defensive efforts up front, while Taylor Golabowski led three players in double figures in digs with 13.

Ellen Senf had eight kills to lead Wright State (6-20, 0-8), which hit just .137.

The Panthers hit .423 in the first set and were in control much of the way. Milwaukee broke a 3-all tie with seven-straight points behind strong serving from Golabowski. UWM was still up 13-9 after a kill from Latzig and extended the lead back out to 20-13 after two-straight WSU errors. An ace from Latzig then pushed things to set-point at 24-17 before a Neuberger kill finished things off.

The second set was tight early, as Milwaukee forged a 10-8 lead on a block by Maggie Dunbar and Latzig. The lead hit 14-9 following a run of four-straight kills by Herron and was still 17-13 on a block by Price and Latzig. The Raiders answered to pull within 17-16 but UWM struck back with three-straight points of its own to regain some control. The Panthers then finished the set behind two kills from Dunbar and another kill from Neuberger.

Milwaukee wrapped things up in the third frame. UWM jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead after a block from Dunbar and Latzig and led 13-10 following a kill from Dunbar. The advantage hit 19-14 following kills from Neuberger and Herron before Wright State was able to close to within 23-20. But Latzig answered with a kill to push UWM to match-point before a kill from Dunbar wrapped things up.

Oakland 3, Green Bay 1
Three Oakland players tallied double-digit kills when Amanda Baker and Cassie Pelloni earned 13 a piece and Jessica Dood added 12 of her own as the Golden Grizzlies (10-13, 4-4 HL) notched a home victory over visitor Green Bay (9-12, 4-4 HL) on Friday night in the Athletics Center O'rena. The set scores were 25-22, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-20.

Melissa Deatsch proved to be a hot hand for Oakland by racking up seven service aces in the match. Baker's 13 kills on the night were good for an impressive .500 hitting efficiency. Brooke Wadsworth contributed a solid four block assists and Ciara Schultz and Alissa Valentine put up 24 and 21 assists respectively. Green Bay hit .181 on the night compared to OU's .188 and the slight edge made the difference for the Grizzlies as they were able to get the result in the match.

Set one began in favor of Green Bay when OU committed a few unfortunate and untimely attacking errors. A kill by Baker and a service ace by Deatsch would set the tone for the Grizzlies as they began to build their advantage. Oakland took set one, 25-22. The second set of the match never showed a Phoenix lead and Oakland took complete control right off the bat with a 6-0 advantage. OU cruised to the 25-21 victory and the 2-0 advantage in the match.

For the third set, the Grizzlies led the whole match until the very tail end. They allowed Green Bay to creep back in and tie the score at 23-23 and continue on for the set victory, 25-23. With the match score at 2-1, Oakland was looking for the close out while Green Bay was attempting to stay alive. OU began with the lead at 7-3 but the Phoenix would not go away so easily, jumping ahead for a couple of brief points. The Grizzlies rallied and fought back to regain the lead, and though a tight affair in the middle goings, OU was able to pull it off in the end. Baker put the final nail in the match for the 25-20 win and the overall 3-1 victory.

Green Bay was led by Shannon Hurley who had 17 kills, while Jillian Bauer led the defensive effort with a match-best 26 digs.

Youngstown State 3, Cleveland State 2
The Youngstown State volleyball team won the first two sets and held off a Cleveland State rally to beat the Vikings in five sets at the Woodling Gymnasium on Friday evening.

The Penguins won 25-20 and 25-18 to go up 2-0, and they had five match points in the third set before Cleveland State prevailed 28-26. The Vikings also pulled out a close one in the fourth at 25-23, and YSU buckled down to win the fifth set 15-10.

Youngstown State is now 13-10 overall and 5-3 in conference play, tying a school record for Horizon League victories with six matches remaining. The Penguins won at Cleveland State for the first time since 1998 and beat the Vikings twice in the same season for the first time since 1995.

Junior outside hitter Alexis Egler finished with 13 kills and 17 digs, and senior libero Erika West registered a match-best 18 digs for the Penguins. The Horizon League's top blocker, Jenna Cavanaugh, had three solo blocks and nine block assists. YSU recorded 19 blocks as a team, which was just one shy of the school record for a five-set match.

Freshman Grace Kauth had 14 kills and 17 digs to lead Cleveland State, which dropped to 12-9 overall and 2-6 in conference play.
