UIC Cross Country Concludes Action at the Illinois Intercollegiate Championships
NORMAL, Ill. - The UIC men's and women's cross country teams concluded action at the 2013 Illinois Intercollegiate Championships on Friday night at the Weibring Golf Club in Normal, Ill.  The women took home third-place honors, while the men finished sixth.

"Kyle Houser was the bright spot for our men," said head coach Jim Knoedel.  "It's rare that a freshman is our number one man in his very first race, it shows the talent he processes."

Freshman Kyle Hauser piloted the men's team with a sixth-place finish in the 8K, earning a time of 25:45.91.  Following closely behind was junior Gunner Sterne, crossing the line at 26:06.60.  Other contributions to the sixth-place finish came from Arash Darbandi (26:13.05) and Photis Karkalis (26:19.95) who finished among the top-50 runners.

"I was very happy with our women's finish," said Knoedel.  "Tess (Ehrhardt) raced with the leaders in the latter stages of the race and produced the number two cross country time at UIC.  She's looked great in practice, so I was not surprised to see how fast she ran tonight."

On the women's side, the squad finished in third-place guided by junior Tess Ehrhardt who took fifth individually and posted a career best of 17:44.01 in the 5K race.  She was followed by teammate Emma Preston who finished in 21st place with a result of 18:30.18.  Lauren Lindholm and Rebecca Zaiter were the other Flames to finish within the top-40 with times of 18:47.79 and 18:52.39, respectively.

The Flames return to the course on Friday, Sept. 27 at the College of DuPage Invitational with a scheduled start time of 4:00 p.m. CT.

Four Record Lifetime-Best Marks As CSU Places Second At Ohio Invitational
ATHENS, Ohio – Behind 12 season-best times and four lifetime-best times, the Cleveland State cross country team had an excellent performance at the Ohio Invitational Saturday morning, placing second as a team and recording one of their best races over the past few seasons.

"I am extremely proud of our results today, everyone had a great race, including some lifetime bests," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "The weather was perfect for running, and it was awesome to see how we performed individually and as a team. Everyone is continuing to improve from week-to-week and you can definitely tell that all of their hard work during practice is starting to pay off."

Ashlyn Woods was one of four top-15 finishers for the Vikings Saturday, pacing CSU for the third straight race, finishing fifth overall in a lifetime-best time of 19:14. Erin Pavick also set a lifetime-best, crossing the finish line just two places behind Woods, with a time of 19:15.

Tori Holt, who was running in her first race of the year due to preseason injury, placed ninth overall with a time of 19:28, giving Cleveland State three runners with sub 20-minute 5K times in the same race for the first time since the 2011 season.

Freshman Alanna Shamrock was the final top-15 finisher for CSU Saturday, finishing 15th overall with a time of 20:01, just shy of breaking the 20-minute mark, but still setting a personal-best. Also setting a personal-best was Sarah Mallow, who finished right Behind Shamrock with a time of 20:14.

Amelia Holt, Katie Webb and Ashley Lydic were the next three Vikings to cross the finish line, led by Amelia Holt who set a lifetime-best finishing in 20:26 to place 18th overall. Webb placed 19th overall (20:31), while Lydic placed 21st (20:52).

The quartet of Jesse Stallings (21:24), Shannon Kruger (21:30), Megan O'Keefe (22:24) and Amanda Kalain (22:26) were the final Vikings to compete Saturday, with Kruger marking a lifetime-best.

"Time-wise, everyone exceeded my expectations today, and we are definitely moving in the right direction as the season progresses. To have all 12 runners record season-best times and to have four runners post lifetime bests is just awesome and I hope that this continues throughout the rest of the season," Jaketic said.

The Vikings will continue the 2013 season next weekend, participating in the Friendship Invitational in Cedarville, Ohio on Saturday, Sept. 21.

Milwaukee Sweeps Concordia Invitational
Five runners finished in the top seven and the Milwaukee men's cross country team started its 2013 season in impressive fashion Saturday, winning the Falcon Invitational hosted by Concordia University.

Sophomore Weston Brusky led the way for Milwaukee, finishing runner-up with a time of 25:36, just behind the course-record pace set by Elmhurt's Will Cross.

For Green Bay, sophomore Dalton Woodworth and senior Alex Kimble led the way with a time of 26:49, finishing in 12th and 14th place, respectively. Not far behind was junior Andrew Sorenson, who finished in 17th place in 27:08. The Phoenix finished in second-place behind the Panthers.

For the women, Ally Anich broke a course record in her first collegiate meet as the Milwaukee women's cross country team kicked off the 2013 season with a bang Saturday, taking the top team spot at the Falcon Invitational hosted by Concordia University.

Anich outpaced all runners with a time of 21:45 on the 6K course, a new course record and a full 43 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

"Things went great today," Milwaukee head coach Pete Corfeld said, "Ally won the women's race and looked really good out there. Both teams definitely have a lot more in them, but it's nice to get one on the board and identify the parts of the race that we need to work on and build from there. Everyone looked really strong today, though, and it was great to have mostly full teams out there."

While Anich made a big splash with her collegiate debut, the rest of the UWM team was not far behind. In fact, Milwaukee had all five of its scorers finish in the top 11, with its first four runners taking seventh or higher.

For Green Bay, the women were highlighted by sophomore Sarah Mauel’s second-place finish.

Behind Mauel’s second-place finish, freshman Breanna Steuss impressed with a time of 23:37 to finish in fifth place. Sophomore Rachel Crites rounded out the top 20 in 17th place with a time of 24:21. Like their men’s counterpart, the women also took second-place

Green Bay has nearly three weeks of until their next meet at Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 4. Meanwhile, the Panthers will have just under two weeks off before competing at the College of DuPage Invitational on Friday, Sept. 27.
