Milwaukee Places Four Players on Division I All-Great Lakes Team

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team had four players honored on the NSCAA All-Great Lakes Region First and Second Team, the NSCAA announced this week.

Sarah Hagen, Keara Thompson and Jamie Forbes were each named to the all-region first team, while Helen Steinhauser was a second-team selection. All four players were all-league first-team honorees this season.

Additionally, the organization released its final national poll, placing the Panthers No. 23. UWM was also a recipient of its Team Academic Award, which the team earned for the 14th time in 15 years.

Hagen is a semifinalist for the M.A.C. Hermann Award, given to the nation's top player, and led the country in goals per game (1.238), points per game (2.90) and game-winning goals (11). Her 26 goals and 61 points this season were second in the nation and both established school and league records for a single season. Hagen also became the league's first three-time Player of the Year.

Thompson finished the season second on the team in scoring with a career-best 24 points and six goals. Her 12 assists led the league, were 10th in the nation and tied for the second-most in school history. The school record-holder in games played with 87, she finished her career among the top-10 in goals (6th, 18), assists (5th, 25) and points (5th, 61).

Forbes was the Horizon League's Goalkeeper and Co-Defensive Player of the Year after posting a 0.66 goals against average and 11 shutouts this season. She won a school-record 18 games, while tallying the third-most shutouts and fifth-best GAA in school history.

Steinhauser finished her season with four goals and five assists for 14 points. She started every game and set career highs for goals and points this season.

Milwaukee had arguably its best season to date in 2011, winning a school-record 19 games and advancing to the NCAA Tournament Second Round for the third time in team history. The Panthers' .864 winning percentage was another school mark, while their 3-0 win over Illinois State in the NCAA First Round was the team's first-ever tournament win.

Off the field, the team boasts a 3.28 team grade point average. The NSCAA Team Academic Award recognizes teams with a GPA of 3.0-or-better.
