INDIANAPOLIS – Making its fourth appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Milwaukee will face second-seeded Villanova in the second round of the tournament on Thursday, March 20, in Buffalo, N.Y.
The game time will be announced on Monday.
Given a No. 15 seed, Milwaukee is carrying the Horizon League banner into the tournament for the first time since 2006, when the Panthers reached the Round of 32 as a No. 11 seed. The Panthers knocked off No. 6 Oklahoma, 82-74, before falling the eventual national champion Florida.
The 2006 campaign marked the first for current head coach Rob Jeter, who guided the Panthers to a 21-13 mark in his eighth year. Milwaukee has won its last five games heading into the NCAA Tournament.
The Panthers became the first team in Horizon League history to win the conference tournament after turning in a sub-.500 conference regular season. Entering the tournament as the No. 5 seed due to a 7-9 League mark, Milwaukee won four tournament games – including road wins at Green Bay and Wright State to claim its fourth conference crown.
Second Team All-Horizon League pick Jordan Aaron leads the Panthers with an average of 15.0 points per game. In the Horizon League Tournament, Aaron averaged 21.0 ppg, earning Tournament MVP honors.
In its three previous trips to the NCAA Tournament, Milwaukee has compiled a 3-3 record, narrowly falling to Notre Dame, 70-69, in 2003, before reaching the Sweet 16 in 2005 as a No. 12 seed.
