Three Horizon League women’s basketball teams were recognized for academic excellence as the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Academic Top-25 Honor Roll was announced for the 2010-11 season, with Green Bay, Milwaukee and Youngstown State all making the list.
Milwaukee took the highest slot for the Horizon League, coming in at No. 15, boasting a 3.402 GPA, followed by Youngstown State at 17 (3.395) and Green Bay at 19 (3.378).
The Horizon League was one of the highest conferences with three schools making the Top 25.
Seven of the top 25 teams qualified for the NCAA tournament this year, with Green Bay being only one of two teams to make it to the Sweet Sixteen. The Phoenix earned its highest academic ranking since the 2006-07 season, while also completing its best season in its 38-year program history with a 34-2 record and an NCAA regional semifinal appearance.
The WBCA Academic Top 25 annually recognizes NCAA Divisions I, II and III; NAIA; and junior college/community college teams across the nation that carry the highest combined grade point averages inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season.
A team’s GPA is calculated by dividing the total number of quality points earned by the total number of hours attempted by all team members in the academic terms that the season spans.
