INDIANAPOLIS – Milwaukee sophomore Durell Busby (Canaan, Tobago) has been named the Horizon League Men’s Runner of the Week, while Valparaiso senior Jarrett Mickens (Aurora, Ill.) has earned Horizon League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors, for the week beginning Jan. 10.

Opening his season at the Badger Track Classic against Wisconsin, Marquette, Eastern Illinois, DePaul and Northern Illinois, Busby captured the 60-meter hurdles, setting a new Milwaukee record by crossing the line in 8.08 seconds.  Busby lowered the school standard from 8.10 seconds.

The time currently ranks as the top in the Horizon League this season.

The men’s field athlete of the week on Dec. 7, Mickens shattered the Valparaiso triple jump record, breaking the 35-year old mark of 46’9” with a leap of 48’2”.  The jump was the best among the 16 competitors at the Bob Eubanks Open and is the best in the Horizon League in the indoor season.

Mickens matched his personal best in the long jump, measuring a leap of 22’1” to finish third out of 25.

Valparaiso will return to the track on Saturday, Jan. 22, venturing to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the Simmons-Harvey Invitational.  The meet will begin at 12 p.m. ET.  Milwaukee hosts Marquette on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET in a dual meet at the Klotsche Center.
