Milwaukee's Emily McClellan Finishes 28th in 200IM at the NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Emily McClellan of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee swimming team took the pool for the first of three times at the NCAA Women's Swimming & Diving Championships Thursday, competing in the 200 IM at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

The senior finished with a time of 1:57.84, just shy of her own school and league record. That time is over a full second faster than her time in the same event at the NCAA Championships one year ago and was good enough for seventh in her heat and 28th overall.

"This was a nice start for Emily," Milwaukee head coach Kyle Clements said. "There's a lot more to the story than just where she placed. She didn't get her best time, but it is her best NCAA time. And if you look a little deeper, she had the second-fastest splits in the breaststroke, which is obviously her main event, so we're really excited about how things started here today and for the next two days."

McClellan's best events are yet to come. The standout senior will compete in the 100 breaststroke Friday, where she is seeded third in the nation. Then, on Saturday, she will swim in the 200 breaststroke where she is seeded fifth.

Friday's action starts with prelims at 11 a.m. with the top 16 advancing to finals, which start at 7 p.m. Follow along here. Friday's finals will also be broadcast online at ESPN3.com.
