INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee seniors Will Fadness and Cale Tassi, along with UIC sophomore Tomas Michelson have been named Horizon League Baseball Players of the Week for the period of May 6-12.
Fadness picked up batter of the week accolades for the second time this season after helping lead the Panthers to a 5-0 week as UWM clinched the Horizon League regular season title.
He started the week by reaching base all six times he came to the plate in Milwaukee’s 15-1 win over Wisconsin Lutheran on Monday. He scored a career-high four runs in the contest.
In the weekend series against Youngstown State, Fadness hit a three-run home run against the Penguins in game one to help propel the Panthers to a 12-7 win.
For the week, the senior was 8-of-16 at the plate, scored eight runs and drove in seven more.
Fadness’ teammate Tassi and UIC’s Michelson were co-Pitchers of the Week after both players threw nine-inning shutouts this past weekend.
Tassi shut out Youngstown State on Saturday to clinch the regular season title for the Panthers. The senior right-hander allowed only six hits and struck out six, while walking four as UWM won, 8-0.
Michelson threw his first career complete game shutout on Friday night to help set the tone for a UIC sweep of Valparaiso. The sophomore allowed just five hits and walked none, while striking out five in the contest.
Other Horizon League Top Performers (May 6-12)
Ryan Boss, UIC (Sr., OF) - Boss hit .500 (9-18) and scored three runs, while also driving in five in UIC’s sweep of Valparaiso last week. He had three doubles and a triple to lead the Flames efforts at the plate.
Drew Dosch, Youngstown State (Jr., 3B) - Dosch batted .462 in YSU’s series at Milwaukee last week. He had multiple hits in two of the three games, including a double in all three games. He has now hit safely in nine consecutive games.
Spencer Mahoney, Valparaiso (So., SS) - Mahoney had at least one hit in every game last week for the Crusaders, including two multi-hit games.
