Milwaukee's Felsing named National Player of the Week by College Volleyball Update

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee volleyball senior Leanne Felsing has been named the national player of the week by College Volleyball Update.

Felsing has helped the Panthers to 13-straight victories, including three victories this past week. She also has a school-record eight triple-doubles this season and 15 in her career.

Felsing was on top of her game in all three outings this past week, recording a pair of triple-doubles while just missing out on a third.

"Leanne really is the core of our team," UWM head coach Susie Johnson said. "We ask her to do so many things. She set all the time this weekend to help fill in for an injured player, and we still ask her to pass and to hit and she comes through all the time. She really is one of the best players we have had here."

Felsing started the week with 20 kills, 19 digs and 36 assists in a win at Northern Illinois. Then, despite playing exclusively at setter with Kellye Zaporski sidelined by injury, Felsing recorded her third-straight triple-double with 10 kills, 13 digs and 37 assists while hitting .625 in a three-game win against Butler. Finally on Saturday, Felsing just missed a record fourth-straight triple-double, collecting nine kills, 10 digs and a season-high 44 assists while continuing as UWM's lone setter.

Felsing's averages for the week included 3.55 kills, 3.82 digs and 10.64 assists per game while hitting a stellar .415.

This is the second time Felsing has been honored as the national player of the week, having won the award last October. Karen Fruit also won the award for UWM in 2004. Felsing is also aiming to become UWM's first two-time All-American since 1985 after earning honorable mention honors from the AVCA last season.

UWM returns to the road for a pair of league matches this weekend. The Panthers play at Youngstown State Friday night before squaring off with Cleveland State Saturday afternoon.
