INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee junior goalkeeper Jamie Forbes (St. Charles, Ill.) has been named Horizon League Women’s Soccer Player of the Week, for the week beginning Aug. 29.  The honor is the first of Forbes’ career.

The keeper led the Panthers to its best start since going 6-0 to begin 2003, posting back-to-back shutouts at the Minnesota Gold Classic. Sitting at No. 22 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) poll entering the week, the Panthers blanked Iowa State, 2-0, and host Minnesota, 1-0, to collect runner-up honors (goal differential) in the tournament.

Against the Cyclones, Forbes turned away four shots to record her third shutout of 2011. Sunday would see the junior record the second-most saves by keeper in the Horizon League this season, as Forbes stopped 11 Minnesota shots on goal to collect the shutout.

Forbes’ four shutouts in the first six matches of 2011 leads the Horizon League. With 26 saves, Forbes is third among the League’s keepers.

The Panthers return home for a pivotal week of rivalry games. They host No. 11 Marquette Wednesday at Engelmann Stadium in a game that will be televised live on Fox Soccer Channel as the NSCAA Game of the Week. Next Sunday, Milwaukee hosts Wisconsin.

  • Alyssa Riley, Detroit (Fr., M) - Riley stuffed the box score in Detroit’s 10-0 rout of Marygrove, collecting the first goals, assist and points of her career.
