INDIANAPOLIS—Milwaukee’s Nic Halverson (Kiel, Wis.) and Valparaiso’s Flavia Segatto (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) have been named the Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Swimmers of the Week for the week of Nov. 11-18. This marks the first time each student-athlete has picked up the honor this year.

The Milwaukee men’s swimming team competed in a dual meet against Wheaton College this past Friday at the Klotsche Natatorium. The squad won nine of the 11 events with six different individuals winning at least one race. The men collected a decisive 137-65 victory over Wheaton.

Halverson led the Panthers in the water with three individual wins, two of which were back-to-back events. His first top-finish came in the 400 Individual Medley that the junior won with a time of 4:16.73. To start his back-to-back events, Halverson competed in the 100 backstroke for the first time this season and only second time in his career and won in a time of 55.15. Just moments later, he was back in the pool swimming the 500-Freestyle and touched the mat in a time of 4:53.84 to collect his third and final individual win of the dual meet.

The Valparaiso women’s swimming team competed in two dual meets this past weekend against Rose-Hulman and Eastern Illinois. On the road at Rose-Hulman, the Crusaders collected their second meet win in a row, 117-86. The following day, the squad fell to Eastern Michigan at home, 162-95.

Segatto claimed victory in six events throughout the two dual meets with four individual wins and two as a member of winning relays. Versus Rose-Hulman, the senior won the 100-Butterfly in a time of 1:02.03 and swam the opening legs of the winning 200-Medley Relay and 400-Freestyle Relay. On Saturday, Segatto took the top of the podium in the 1000-Freestyle with a time of 11:03.11, 200-Butterfly clocking in at 2:16.24 and the 200-Individual Medley in a time of 2:17.38.

Valparaiso and Milwaukee take a short break from the pool this weekend as the Panthers prepare for the Iowa Hawkeye Invitational running from December 5-7 in Iowa City, Iowa. The Crusaders return pool side for competition on Dec. 4 at the Calvin College Invitational.
