Milwaukee's Harris Moves from Basketball Court to Football Field

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Former Milwaukee forward Demetrius Harris' NFL dream will start with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee basketball standout was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Chiefs, the first team to look at him for a football career after the college basketball season ended.

Harris wound up working out for about 10 teams prior to this past weekend's NFL Draft, and scouts have him projected as a tight end. He was a highly-touted football player in high school and originally signed to play the sport at Arkansas State.

Chiefs' rookies, including Harris, are expected to take part in a three-day mini-camp that starts May 10. The rest of the team then joins them the following week for the start of organized team activities. The Chiefs then hold their training camp in St. Joseph, Mo., starting in late July.

The 6-foot-7 Harris was a standout on the basketball court for the Panthers this past season, averaging 9.1 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest while making 28 starts.

Should Harris play in an NFL game, he would become the first Panther to do so since 1983, when Mike Reinfeldt finished off his eight-year pro career.
