University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee junior Andy Hetebrueg (baseball) and Valparaiso University junior Karen Korb (softball) have been named the U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Week, League commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Tuesday (April 1).

Hetebrueg, the U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete two weeks ago, helped UWM to a 2-2 week, including taking two of three games from Butler on the weekend. He earned the victory in Sunday's (Mar. 30) contest, striking out a career-high seven batters in seven innings of work. Hetebrueg started two other games in the field (one at first base, one at third base), collecting two hits and scoring twice.

Academically, Hetebrueg carries a 3.787 grade-point average as a marketing major. He has been recognized on the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and the Academic All-League team in 2007, as well as by the Dean's Honor List at Milwaukee. In addition, Hetebrueg was named to the CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team last season.

Korb hit .367 (11-of-30) from the leadoff spot last week, helping the Crusaders to a 6-3 record, including two Horizon League victories. She registered the first two triples of her career, and stole five bases without getting caught, putting her atop the League in that category at18-for-18 on the season. Korb now has stolen 27 consecutive bases dating back to last season.

As a finance and marketing major, Korb maintains a 3.930 grade-point average. She is a two-time National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete, as well as a two-time Mid-Continent All-Academic team member. Korb was named to the 2007 Horizon League Academic Honor Roll last fall, and was an CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District V Second-Team honoree as a sophomore.

The Horizon League instituted the U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution and passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours, and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
