Milwaukee's Leanne Felsing, Valparaiso's Porché receive AVCA All-America Honorable Mention

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee senior outside hitter Leanne Felsing and Valparaiso University sophomore outside hitter Angie Porché added to their respective 2007 postseason résumés as both players received All-America Honorable Mention from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Wednesday (Dec. 12).
This season marks the 27th year in which the AVCA has announced the Division I All-America Teams for women's volleyball. The awards will be presented on Friday at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet in Sacramento, Calif. at the Sacramento Convention Center.
Last Wednesday (Dec. 5), both Felsing and Porché were named to the AVCA All-Midwest Regional Team.
Felsing received AVCA All-America Honorable Mention honors for the second straight season. In 2007, Felsing was also named Horizon League Player of the Year. In addition, the Panther senior guided UWM to a League-best 26-3 record and its fifth straight regular-season title. Felsing also tallied a NCAA-best 18 triple-doubles and was named the League's Offensive Player of the Week twice this season (Aug. 27 and Sept. 24).
Valparaiso's Porché became the first Crusader to earn national recognition from the AVCA following a 2007 campaign that saw her lead the League in kills per game with a 4.67 average and set a single-season school standard for kills with 584.
The Crusader sophomore was also selected to the All-Horizon League Team and helped Valpo to a 21-12 mark and an appearance in the Horizon League Championship title match against Cleveland State. Although the Crusaders dropped a 3-1 decision in the title match to the Vikings, Porché was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Each of the three AVCA All-America Teams is comprised of 12 athletes. The Division I AVCA National Player of the Year will be announced on Friday at the AVCA All-America/Players of the Year Banquet.
