INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee junior forward Kelly Lewers (Homewood, Ill.) is the Horizon League Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while Detroit junior midfielder Alyssa Riley (Whiby, Ontario) has been named Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Sept. 16-23.

Coming off two straight losses to nationally ranked teams, Detroit’s defense bounced back to post two shutout wins at home versus Bowling Green (3-0) and Stetson (4-0).

Riley led a Titan defense that gave up a mere three shots on goal over the weekend. The junior midfielder was also a plus on the offense end, scoring two goals on two shots on goal.

Milwaukee scored a 2-1 victory at Illinois State, a team that participated in the 2012 NCAA Tournament and was coming off a 3-2 victory versus No. 22 Marquette.

Lewers led the Panthers offensive attack assisting on the first goal just 1:44 into the game, and later scored the game-winner 25:04 into the contest. The goal was the fourth time this season she’s found the back of the net. The Panthers victory was especially impressive considering they were playing with two starters down and had four freshmen in the starting lineup.

Detroit is in action next versus Madonna on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at Titan Field. The game is slated for 3:00 p.m. ET. Milwaukee is in action next on Monday, Sept. 23 against in-state rival Marquette. The game is scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. ET kickoff at Englemann Stadium.
