INDIANAPOLIS - University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee junior midfielder Kate Megna has been named Horizon League Women's Soccer Player of the Week for the period of Sept. 15-21. It is Megna's first career weekly honor from the league office.
Megna, a Middleton, Wis., native, scored two goals in Milwaukee's two matches last weekend, earning Offensive MVP honors at the Minnesota Gold Classic in Minneapolis. Her first goal came in the 85th minute of the Panthers' 2-0 win over Boston University Friday night.
Megna also found the back of the net in the 54th minute of UWM's 2-2 tie against Brown Sunday afternoon. The tally gave the Panthers a 2-1 lead before the Bears found the equalizer later in the contest.
For the week, she finished with four points, scoring two goals on four shots. The Wisconsin native now has four goals and ranks third in the Horizon League with 13 points (4g, 5a - 13).
Megna and the Panthers (7-1-2) return to action Wednesday when they host Northwestern at 8 p.m. ET. Milwaukee opens league play Friday at home against Green Bay at 8 p.m. ET.
