INDIANAPOLIS --Milwaukee senior Kerri Schuh has been named Horizon League Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while Valparaiso junior Taylor Root has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period of Aug. 22-28.

Schuh, an outside hitter from Appleton, Wis., collected 50 kills (3.85 kills per set) and 31 digs for the Panthers last week.  The 2010 Conference Player of the Year tallied two double-doubles with 19 kills and 11 digs versus Arizona State and 14 kills and 14 digs against Denver. Schuh also had 12 assists and one ace as she was named to the ASU Sheraton Classic All-Tournament team. Milwaukee returns to action this weekend at the Sheraton Inn Drake Invitational.

Root, a libero from Jenison, Mich., recorded 69 digs in 14 sets (4.9 digs per set) for the Crusaders last week.  She led all players in digs in three of the four matches Valpo played. The 2010 Conference Defensive Player of the Year had 33 digs in Valpo’s five set win over host West Virginia. It was the fourth 30+ dig effort of Root’s career.  This marks Root’s sixth career Player of the Week honor, tying her for the second-most in Horizon League history. Root and her Crusader teammates host the Marriott Volley Brawl this coming weekend.

Other Top Performers for the Week:
Janise Dismuke, UIC (Jr., MH) - Dismuke was named MVP of the CEFCU Classic in Peoria, Ill., after leading the Flames to a 2-0 record last weekend. Dismuke had 24 kills and a hitting percentage of .444.

Amy Grabiec, Cleveland State (Jr., L) - Grabiec was named to the Hokie Tournament All-Tournament team and helping lead the Vikings to a 2-1 record. She had 27 digs in CSU’s five-set victory over Indiana and her 56 digs over the weekend moved her into the all-time top-10 list at Cleveland State for career digs.

Missy Hundelt, Youngstown State(So., RS) - Hundelt had 50 kills and 32 digs on the weekend as she was named to the All-Tournament team at the Syracuse Big Orange Tournament. She had 25 kills in the season-opener against Siena, which was the most by a Penguin since the 2006 season.

Carmen Leitermann, Green Bay (Jr., MH) - Leitermann led the Phoenix in blocks, kills and hitting percentage last weekend. She had 15 kills and zero errors for a .556 hitting percentage against North Dakota and tallied six blocks versus 19th-ranked Dayton.

Laura Purcell, Loyola(Fr., OH) - Purcell, playing in her first collegiate volleyball matches, was named to the All-Tournament team at the Ball State Active Ankle Challenge after averaging 3.17 kills and 3.5 digs per set. She recorded her first collegiate double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs versus IPFW and led the team in both kills and digs in both matches.
