Milwaukee's Waldhart Earns CoSIDA Academic All-America Honors

MILWAUKEE - Senior Jeremy Waldhart of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's swimming team has been named a member of the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America At-Large Men's Team. Being honored on one of the three 15-member national teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), is the highest academic honor possible in Division I athletics.

The Men's At-Large program for the Academic All-America includes the sports of swimming, fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, tennis and water polo. Waldhart, a biology major with a 3.91 GPA, was named to the third team.

He was on the Dean's List and a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll each semester at UWM. He helped lead UWM to team title at 2010 Horizon League Championships, winning seven races and finishing second seven other times over the course of the season. The two-time team captain placed fifth in the 200 backstroke, eighth in the 400 IM and 14th in the 200 IM at the championship meet and was recently named an Academic All-Horizon League team member for the third time in his career. He earned the prestigious Panther Senior Athlete Award at the annual Student-Athlete Awards reception, owns six school records and won 26 races over the course of his career.

Waldhart becomes Milwaukee's first-ever CoSIDA Academic All-American in men's swimming and the 16th selection overall, with the last being baseball's Tim Patzman, who was named to the national team last month. He is also the only Horizon League student-athlete to be among the three teams selected today.
