Milwaukee's Waldhart, Hall Honored as U.S. Army Scholar-Athletes of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS -- University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee swimmer Jeremy Waldhart and diver Ashley Hall have been named U.S. Army Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 25, League commissioner Jonathan B. LeCrone announced Thursday (Jan. 29).

Waldhart (West Bend, Wis./West Bend East), a junior, won four individual events and was part of a winning relay team in the Milwaukee men's dual-meet victories over the University of Chicago and Western Illinois University. He took top honors in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley Friday versus Chicago. Against WIU Saturday, he won the 400 individual medley and 200 backstroke and was part of the 200 medley relay team.

In the classroom, Waldhart carries a 3.951 grade-point average as a business major at Milwaukee, where he has been named to the school's Dean's List. He previously was selected Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Nov. 7 and 14 and earned ESPN The Magazine All-District Second-Team honors last season.

Hall (New Berlin, Wis./Eisenhower), a senior, won three of four diving events as the Milwaukee women won back-to-back events over the weekend over Chicago and Western Illinois. She won the three-meter and placed second in the one-meter Friday against Chicago, then captured both events Saturday versus WIU, including an NCAA Zone-qualifying score on the three-meter. The Panthers are 13-2 after winning 13 consecutive dual meets this season.

A business major, Hall owns a 3.965 grade-point average at Milwaukee. She was voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Team last season as well as the Academic All-Horizon League Team.

The Horizon League instituted the U.S. Army Scholar-Athlete of the Week awards as a way to recognize outstanding academic and athletic achievement by its student-athletes. To be eligible for the honor, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and perform well during the week's competition. Winners are selected by a group of League faculty athletic representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
