INDIANAPOLIS -- Detroit senior Brigid Mulroy has been named Horizon League Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of Jan. 11-17. The selection marks Mulroy's second weekly honor from the League office this season and the second of her career.
Mulroy, a guard from West Bloomfield, Mich., averaged 18.0 points in two Horizon League victories last week. She nailed 10-of-14 (.714) from beyond the arc and 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
Mulroy connected on all five three-point attempts, including a long ball out of the corner as time expired, to give Detroit a dramatic 66-65 win over UIC on Thursday. She then drilled 5-of-9 from three-point land to help the Titans post a 53-50 victory over Loyola on Saturday.
Detroit went just 2-9 in non-conference action this season, but, at 4-1, the Titans are off to their best League start since 2004-05.
Mulroy leads the conference in three-point accuracy (.515) and threes made per game (3.1) through 16 tilts this season. She also ranks third in free-throw percentage (.875) and fifth in scoring (14.3).
Mulroy will become eligible for the Horizon League Network's "People's Choice" award, which is announced each Thursday afternoon. Log on to www.HorizonLeagueNetwork.tv to vote.
Detroit returns to action on Thursday when it visits Valparaiso at 8:05 p.m. ET.
