INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee senior Dan Simon (Bristol, Wis.) and Detroit freshman Aisha Potts-Tyre (Maumee, Ohio) have been named the Horizon League Indoor Field Athletes of the Week.

It is the first award of the season for either.

Simon took second place in the heptathlon at the GVSU Big Meet, the top collegian in the competition. His scored of 5,012 points ranks second in school history and 66th nationally this season.

Potts-Tyre took fourth in the pentathlon at the Windsor Team Challenge with 3,010 points. In just her second pentathlon, she set a new career-high in points as well as personal records in the long jump (5.04m) and the 800m (2:47.27).

Simon and Milwaukee return to action on Friday, hosting the Panther Tune-Up. Potts-Tyre and the Titans, meanwhile, will compete at the GVSU Tune-Up on Friday and the Silverstine Invite on Saturday.

It would be remiss to fail to mention a brewing rivalry in the men's weight throw competition, which may come to a head next week at the Horizon League indoor championships in Youngstown, Ohio. Detroit junior Eric Lewis tossed a new personal record 17.82m, breaking the high the he had set at last year's conference championship and the previous record for the Windsor Team Challenge, which had been set in 2007. Meanwhile, Loyola junior Paul Yovanic tossed 18.91m at the GVSU Big Meet, the new season-long in the Horizon League and the 44th-best toss nationally this season.
