INDIANAPOLIS – Prolific scoring efforts continued on the women’s side, where a hat trick and a two two-goal efforts occurred in helping Cleveland State and Detroit to wins. Youngstown State picked up its second straight win, while Valparaiso and Wright State earned results.

Youngstown State 3, Robert Morris 2
Rachel Morrison had an emphatic answer for Robert Morris’ equalizer, scoring just 12 seconds after the tying goal to lift Youngstown State to a 3-2 win over the host Colonials.

The win moves Youngstown State to 2-0-0 for the first time since 1999.

The Colonials tied the match at 2-2 when Alex Sarsfield lauched a 45-yard shot over Viola's head and into the net with at the 64:22 mark. Morrison then took the ensuing kickoff and dribbled through the Colonials defense and buried the game-winning goal at the 64:34 mark of the second half.

Earlier, Cara Armstrong gave the Guins a 1-0 lead at the 13:38 mark after blasting a shot into the upper right corner of the goal from a pass from Allison Ludwig. It marked Armstrong's first career goal.

Robert Morris tied the game at 1-1 at the 25:03 mark when a shot by RMU's Lauren Sulkowski bounced past YSU goalkeeper Ali Viola.

Just 10 minutes into the second half, Chelsey Haney put the Guins ahead, 2-1, on a breakaway shot into the left side of the goal after a long pass from Shann Leghart.

Detroit 3, Marygrove 0
Abby McCollum scored two early goals for Detroit as the Titans cruised to a 3-0 win over Marygrove.

Detroit (2-1-0) collected its second straight win in the same dominant fashion as its win on Monday, racing out to a big lead.

This time it was McCollum leading the way, as her first of the day came at the three minute mark as a loose ball bounced its way off of her and into the net to put the Titans up 1-0. Her second was a mirror image of Kaitlyn Quarrell’s third goal on Monday against Canisius. That game saw Quarrell receive a pass from the left side of the goal line from Haley Burtraw  and this time, Quarrell was on the passing end as she set up McCollum inside the six-yard box for the tap in and the second UDM goal.

The final Detroit goal came from Burtraw whose loose ball wound up in the net for the final goal of the contest at the 30:00 mark of the game.

Despite no offensive goals in the second half, Detroit controlled the bulk of the possession and held a 10-1 second half shooting advantage. Overall, the Titans finished with a 20-5 lead in total shots..

Cleveland State 5, IUPUI 1
Jaime Avona recorded just the second hat trick in Cleveland State women's soccer program history and Valerie Stahl added two goals to lead the Vikings to a 5-1 win at IUPUI on Friday evening.

Avona joins Ashley Walchak as the only players in school history with three goals in one match. Walchak accomplished the feat on Aug. 27, 2006, against Delaware State.

Stahl also added an assist, while Taylor Vidovic, Vickie Havas and Lynsay Strahorn all chipped in assists

Cleveland State (2-1-0) started slowly, but scored the last five goals of the match to win going away. The IUPUI lead did not last long as Stahl came back just 42 seconds later with her first goal of the season and sixth of her career to knot the contest at 1-1.

Avona made it 2-1 in favor of CSU at the 15:09 mark of the first half with her first tally of the season off a Havas assist.

It would stay that way through halftime, but Avona's second goal of the match off a Vidovic assist in the 60th minute gave CSU a 3-1 lead and Stahl's second goal of the match off a Strahorn assist gave the Vikings a 4-1 lead at the 69:02 mark.

With the outcome no longer in doubt, Avona provided one last firework to the match, scoring her third goal of the night off a Stahl assist in the 73rd minute.

Valparaiso 1, Kent State 1 (2OT)
Facing a one-goal deficit just over five minutes from time, Sarrah Ludwig sent a strike from 25 yards inside the right post to propel Valparaiso to a 1-1 draw with Kent State Friday evening at Brown Field.

Valparaiso (2-0-1) remains unbeaten on the season.

Following the booking of a Kent State player in the 85th minute, the Crusaders re-started, and Ludwig eventually came up with a touch on the right flank just outside the area.  Off-balance and with a Golden Flashes defender bearing down on her, the rookie struck a right-footed shot which eluded goalkeeper Stephanie Senn and made its away inside the post for the equalizer.

Kent State originally claimed the lead just under 20 minutes into the second half, as a combination play got the ball to the foot of Stephanie Haugh, who struck a shot into the upper half of the goal from 20 yards out to put the Golden Flashes on the scoreboard.

Each side would put just one shot on goal over the pair of overtime periods as well.  Kent State had the best chance in extra time, as Jaclyn Dutton took a free kick from straight on just outside the box and rattled the crossbar.  Off the rebound, the Golden Flashes found the back of the net, but they had been flagged for offside prior to the shot.

Wright State 1, Denver 1 (2OT)
Wright State tied Denver 1-1 Friday afternoon in the opening match of the Omni Hotels Colorado Classic in Boulder, Colorado.

Senior Emilie Fillion gave Wright State (2-0-1) a quick lead at the 6:49 mark of the first half as she scored her third goal in as many matches this season.  Freshman Ini Umotong recorded her first collegiate assist.

Denver, however, answered with a goal of its own later in the period at the 17:23 mark and it remained tied the rest of the way despite the Pioneers holding a 23-5 shot advantage.  Junior goalkeeper Brooke McCurdy tallied five saves for the Raiders.

Florida Gulf Coast 2, Green Bay 1
Green Bay scored first in its opening game of the Embassy Suites Classic in Fort Myers, Fla., but tournament host Florida Gulf Coast scored twice within four minutes to steal a 2-1 victory.

Megan Braatz put Green Bay (0-2-0) in front in the 62nd minute, taking a pass from Hannah Kernen and converting to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.

Florida Gulf Coast pushed across the equalizer in the 79th minute on a header goal from Emma Blackwell. Less than three minutes later, Blackwell added the game-winner and the Phoenix suffered a second-straight tough defeat.

Iowa 4, Loyola 0
A 10-minute stretch of the first half proved to be Loyola’s downfall in a 4-0 loss at Iowa on Friday night.

The host Hawkeyes scored three times in an 11:59 stretch of the first half, sending Loyola (1-1-0) to its first loss of the young season.

The Ramblers could not recover in the second half, failing to find the back of the net in five shots on goal.

No. 13 Marquette 4, No. ARV Milwaukee 0
Marquette scored a pair of goals in each half and Milwaukee could not get its offense on track in a 4-0 loss to the Golden Eagles.

The loss is the first of the season Milwaukee (1-1-1), while MU improves to 2-0.

Marquette got onto the board quickly, striking in just the 10th minute when Maegan Kelly set up Rachael Sloan for the eventual game-winner. The second goal was courtesy of unfortunate defending, as the Panthers had two chances to clear, but was unable to get the ball to their feet to do so. After a second short header, Emily Jacobson headed the ball back into the box to Kate Reigle, who out the ball into the net from 12 yards.

It was much of the same after halftime, as Milwaukee was never able to get its footing in the game offensively. The Golden Eagles, however, generated a number of chances and added a pair of goals after halftime, with Cara Jacobson and Ally Miller getting on the board for the home team.

MU finished with a decisive 21-3 shot advantage and forced all 11 of the game's corner kicks. Forbes finished with six saves on the night. Her counterpart, Sofie Schunk, was not called on to make a save in her second shutout of the season.
