Detroit, Mich. - The 2009 Division I Men's Basketball Final Four logo was unveiled in front of hundreds of people at the General Motors Wintergarden at the Marriott Renaissance Center in downtown Detroit Wednesday morning (Nov. 28). The University of Detroit Mercy is the host institution for the 2009 Final Four and this is the first time in history in which this event will be held in Detroit.

"The logo is extremely dynamic, upbeat and modern," said the Chair of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee/Assistant Vice President and Director of Athletics at George Mason, Tom O'Connor. "The logo reflects the NCAA and athletic competition in a sense of moving forward; it really jumps out at you."

Lucius Vassar, the city's chief administrative officer, and Rick Wagoner, chairman and CEO of General Motors, were joined by O'Connor and NCAA Executive Vice President Tom Jernstedt for the unveiling ceremony.

"I am really pleased that the logo captures the flavor of the city of Detroit," stated UDM Director of Athletics, Keri Gaither. "We all have been working hard toward the 2009 Final Four, so it is exciting to see something visual in conjunction with the event."

Detroit will host the Final Four on April 4 and 6, 2009 at Ford Field. The venue and city will also host the Midwest Regional for the 2008 Men's Basketball Championship, with games taking place March 28 and 30.
