INDIANAPOLIS -- Milwaukee sophomore Rachel Neuberger has been named Horizon League Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while Green Bay junior Brittany Groth has earned Defensive Player of the Week honors for the period of Oct. 24 - Oct. 30.
Neuberger, a middle blocker from Muskego, Wis., hit .432 and averaged 3.00 kills per set while only committing two errors last week to help Milwaukee clinch the regular season Horizon League championship. Neuberger was at her best on Saturday when Milwaukee defeated second-place Cleveland State to clinch the regular season title and remain undefeated in conference play. The sophomore had a hitting percentage of .500 and finished with 16 kills as the Panthers defeated the Vikings, 3-1.
Neuberger was solid on defense last weekend, as well, blocking 10 shots total in the Panthers’ two matches.
Milwaukee (21-4, 14-0) is off this week.
Groth, a libero from Oak Creek, Wis., had a huge night in Green Bay’s 3-1 win over Loyola. Groth had 35 digs in four sets (8.8 per set) setting a new school record for digs in a four-set match. The previous record was 34 set by current Green Bay assistant coach, Sarah Rauen.
In setting the school record, Groth also had her 1,00th career dig. The junior now has 1,025 career digs.
Green Bay (10-14, 6-6) hosts two important matches this week as they try to position themselves for seeding in the Horizon League tournament. Only the No. 1 seed (Milwaukee) has been determined for the conference tournament. The Phoenix host Butler (12-13, 8-5) on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. ET and Wright State (4-22, 3-10) on Saturday at 3:00 p.m. ET.
