INDIANAPOLIS – Milwaukee’s Rachel Neuberger and Loyola’s Josh Stein have been named the Horizon League Scholar-Athletes of the Month for the month of October.

Neuberger, a volleyball player at Milwaukee, was named the Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week on October 31. She helped UWM clinch the regular season title during the month and was among the league leaders in hitting percentage and blocks. The sophomore leads the Panthers in blocks and hitting percentage and ranks third in kills. Neuberger was named the Region Freshman of the Year and to the Horizon League All-Newcomer Team last season.

Off the field, Neuberger is a business major at Milwaukee. The Muskego, Wis. native maintains a 3.858 GPA in her coursework and is a regular on the UWM Honor Roll and Dean’s List. She is also a member of the Horizon League Honor Roll.

Stein, a cross country runner at Loyola, earned First Team All-Horizon League honors for the third straight year after he placed fifth overall with a time of 26:20 to help Loyola finish runner-up at the Horizon League Cross Country Championships. Stein was named Horizon League Male Runner of the Week for finishing 20th out of 539 runners at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on October 1 with a time of 25:39. The Aurora, Ill. native also helped Loyola to a fifth-place showing at the Bradley Classic on October 14 by finishing 18th out of 188 competitors in a time of 25:21.

The senior is a member of the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and maintains a 3.70 GPA. Stein helped Loyola earn a USTFCCCA All-Academic Team award in 2010. The biology major was also a Capital One Academic All-District V selection during the 2010-11 school year. In addiiton, he has been a member of the Horizon League Cross Country All-Academic Team the last two seasons.

The Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Month recognizes outstanding academic and athletic achievements. To be eligible for the honor, the student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better (on a 4.00 scale), have completed at least one year at the member institution, passed 24 semester or 36 quarter hours and perform well during the month’s competition. Winners are selected by the League’s faculty athletics representatives, from nominations provided by sports information directors.
