OVERLAND Park, Kan. -- Butler senior guard Ronald Nored was named one of 30 candidates for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award in men's basketball, the organization announced today.
Nored, who helped lead Butler to two appearances in the national championship game, earned Horizon League All-Academic Team honors in 2010-11. In his three seasons with the Bulldogs, Nored has earned a place on the Horizon League All-Defensive Team in both 2010 and 2011. In 2010, Nored was named the League Co-Defensive Player of the Year.
Off the court, Nored has shined, being voted Butler's class president just a week into his freshman year. A secondary education major, Nored also serves as a youth basketball coachand volunteers at local food kitchens.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition. It is the second consecutive year a Butler men's basketball player has been nominated, as Nored joins former teammate Matt Howard as nominees.
An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School®, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
Lowe’s, an official Corporate Partner of the NCAA, will announce the men’s Senior CLASS Award® winner during the 2012 NCAA Men’s Final Four®, which will be held March 31 and April 2 in New Orleans. The women’s award winner will be announced during the NCAA Women’s Final Four®, which will be held April 1 and 3 in Denver.
The 60 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists in both men’s and women’s basketball midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, Division I men’s and women’s coaches and fans who will select one finalist who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
