The Northern Kentucky University men's soccer team (1-1-0) defeated Memphis (0-2-0) on Monday at Mike Rose Soccer Stadium to earn its first win of 2015. Freshman Calvin Murphy netted the game winning goal, his first donning the Black and Gold.
After going scoreless for 63 minutes NKU broke the stalemate when Murphy found the net with an assist by Johannes Jansen. On a free kick just outside of the box to the right, Jansen whipped the ball in and Murphy headed it back for the score. Read more
Crusaders Drop Heartbreaker at Cincinnati
An evenly-matched, hard-fought game for the Valparaiso University men’s soccer team at Cincinnati Monday evening ended on a down note, as the Bearcats converted on a penalty kick in the 103rd minute to send the Crusaders to a 1-0 defeat.
A game which saw each team earn a fair number of chances, the Crusaders were out-shot by the Bearcats by a narrow 10-8 margin over the 103 minutes of play. Cincinnati (2-0-0) attempted seven corner kicks to Valpo’s five as well, while it was a fairly physical affair, as the Bearcats were called for 18 fouls to 16 fouls for the Crusaders. Read more
