INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Kentucky women’s soccer team (13-6-1) will take on No. 1 seed West Virginia in Morgantown, WV. in the opening round of the 2016 NCAA Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. ET at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. The Norse will make their first Division I tournament appearance in program history and the first NCAA post season return since 2011.

Northern Kentucky received an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament by defeating Milwaukee in a thrilling, 3-2 come back in the Horizon League Tournament Championship last Saturday night in Milwaukee, Wis. The Mountaineers (19-1-1) earned a No. 1 seed after winning the Big 12 Conference Championship with a 3-2 overtime victory over TCU on Sunday.

This will be the 12th NCAA post season appearance for the Norse after falling last to Grand Valley in the second round of the 2011 Division II NCAA tournament. Penn State defeated West Virginia, 2-0 in last year’s Elite Eight round of the NCAA quarterfinals. Saturday’s match will be Northern Kentucky’s first encounter with West Virginia in program history. The winner will take on the Ohio St/Dayton winner in the second round Nov. 18-20.
