ROCHESTER, Mich. Austin Ricci scored the game-winning goal off a feed from AJ Shaw in the 36th minute moving the No. 4 Oakland men's soccer team past No. 5 Green Bay in Horizon League Tournament quarterfinal action on Monday night from the Oakland Soccer field. Liam McQueenie also recorded his second career shutout with four saves.
The Golden Grizzlies advance to the semifinals and will take on host and No. 1 seed Wright State on Thursday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. Read more
Green Bay Unable to Pull Even at Oakland, Falls 1-0
ROCHESTER, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men’s soccer season came to an end this evening in Rochester, Mich., after a highly contested match ended in favor of Oakland, 1-0. The Golden Grizzlies’ Austin Ricci found the back of the Phoenix net in the 37th minute, forcing the Phoenix to play from behind for the remainder of the match.
The urgency was evident in Green Bay’s seemingly relentless attack, as the Phoenix outshot Oakland 10-4 in the second half, including a 4-0 tally in shots on goal. Oakland was able to turn away every effort from the Phoenix in the second half and held on to claim a 1-0 victory and advance to the semifinals. Read more
Panthers Advance In Penalty-Kick Shootout
MILWAUKEE - Oliver Haslund came up with a key save on the first penalty-kick attempt of the shootout and Francesco Saporito sent the Milwaukee men's soccer team on to the semifinals when he netted the decisive try Monday evening in the first round of the Horizon League Tournament at Engelmann Stadium.
"It's a tough way to win the game and certainly a tough way to lose the game," Milwaukee head coach Kris Kelderman said. "A lot of respect for Valparaiso, they have a very good team. They are very difficult to play against and I have a lot of respect for Coach Avery. It's a tough way to go down on penalty kicks, but I am very excited for our group. We knew it was going to be a tough game." Read more
Men's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw, Milwaukee Advances on Shootout
The Valparaiso University men’s soccer team saw its season come to an end on Monday night in Milwaukee, Wis. The Crusaders and Panthers played to a scoreless draw through 110 minutes, but Milwaukee converted on all five penalty kicks to take the shootout and advance to the Horizon League Tournament semifinals. This marks the second time in the last three years that the Valpo season has ended on a penalty kick shootout in the first round of the tournament. Read more
