The Oakland women’s golf team has been selected to compete in the 2016 NCAA Regional in Shoal Creek, Ala., May 5-7 at Shoal Creek Golf and Country Club, hosted by the University of Alabama. The Golden Grizzlies will make their first-ever NCAA Regional appearance in program history.
Oakland received an automatic bid to the NCAA Regional by capturing its first league title in school history at the 2016 Horizon League Championship, April 22-24, in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. The Golden Grizzlies captured the title after posting a three-day total of 944, defeating Northern Kentucky by three strokes. Oakland had four players place inside the top-10 including Fiona Schmidt with a sixth-place finish after carding a 234 and Elle Nichols placing seventh with a 236.
From each of the four regionals, the low six teams and the low three individuals not on those teams (for a total of 24 teams and 12 individuals) advance to the national championships, May 20-25, hosted by the University of Oregon at Eugene Country Club, in Eugene, Oregon.
