Oakland's Nash and Jones Tab Weekly Honors

INDIANAPOLIS -- Oakland senior Olivia Nash (Escanaba, Mich) is the Horizon League Women’s Basketball Player of the Week while Taylor Jones (Detroit, Mich) is the Freshman of the Week for the week of Dec. 21-27.

Oakland got off to a hot start in its contest over IPFW with a seven point lead in the first quarter but were down by one at the half, 41-40. The Golden Grizzlies tied up the ballgame in the third frame and eventually captured the 81-74 in the fourth outscoring IPFW 23-16 in the final quarter. The game saw ten lead changes over the 40 minutes while the score was tied 13 times.

Nash posted her third double-double of the season with a season-high 21 points and 10 rebounds against IPFW. The senior went 9-for-16 (.562) from the field while also dishing out three assists. Nash’s 10 rebounds in the game moved her to ninth place all-time in Oakland’s program history with 733 rebounds.

Jones set career highs in five categories in the win over IPFW for the Golden Grizzlies last week. The freshman tallied a career-high 25 points, nine free-throws made, four assists, one block and clocked in 32 minutes played. Jones went 7-for-11 (.636) from the field while also grabbing two steals for the Golden Grizzlies.

Oakland is back in action Wednesday, December 30 at Vermont with the tip-off at 2 p.m. ET and begins Horizon League play on January 2 versus Cleveland State for a Noon ET start.

Brianne Cohen, Detroit (So., F): Scored 13 points and grabbed 8 rebounds against #24 Michigan State while also collecting two blocks.
Mehryn Kraker, Green Bay (Jr., G): Scored her 800th point in Green Bay’s win over Belmont while setting a new season high of 22 points.
Jasmyn Walker, Valparaiso (So., F): Scored 12 points and tabbed seven rebounds over IU-Kokomo while going 4-for-5 (.800) from the field.

Top Freshmen of the Week:
Amber Lindfors, Valparaiso (C): Recorded her second double-double in her last three games with 15 points and 11 rebounds against IU-Kokomo.
