OTTAWA -- Oakland softball senior Erika Polidori and former Youngstown State catcher Vicky Rumph were selected to play for the Canadian Senior Women's National Team this summer, announced by Softball Canada last week. The duo are just two of only 17 players named to represent their country.

Additionally, Youngstown State sophomore Miranda Castiglione was tabbed for the Canadian junior team.

Polidori, a native of Brantford, Ontario, Canada, just completed her junior year at OU where she led the team in batting average (.306), hits (30), runs (16), RBIs (12), on-base percentage (.387) and slugging percentage (.459). She was an Academic All-Summit League selection and a CollegeSportsMadness.com Summit League second team honoree for the 2013 season. Polidori ranks second in school history in batting average and slugging percentage and is a two-time All-Summit League selection.

Rumph, a two-time All-Horizon League Second-Team selection, finished her career at Youngstown State as the school's career runs batted in leader with 123. With a career batting average of .316, Rumph, a catcher, is also the only player in school history to finish her career with a .300 batting average, 20 home runs and 100 RBIs.

In 2012, Rumph batted a career-best .340 with 13 doubles, a triple, four home runs and 35 runs batted in. She was also named Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-America Third-Team.

"These are two great opportunities for Vicky and Miranda," Youngstown State Head Coach Brian Campbell said. "Having the chance to play for your national team is a tremendous privilege and we are really proud of both young ladies.

"Vicky had such a tremendous career for YSU and is a big reason for the success we have had. This is going to benefit Miranda in the long run. She has a tremendous upside and being able to play against great competition will just make her a better player."

Castiglione, an infielder, batted .283 with three home runs, three doubles, a triple, 18 runs batted in and 19 runs scored as a freshman in 2013.

She helped the Penguins reach the 2013 Horizon League Tournament Championship and batted .333 with three RBIs in the postseason.

The Canadian Senior Women's National Team will compete at the U.S. World Cup of Softball VIII from July 11-14 in Oklahoma City, Okla., and the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship from July 16-22 in Surrey, B.C. Following these events, the coaching staff will select a final roster to represent Canada at the VIII Women's Pan American Championship, scheduled for August 10-18 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The Junior National Team will play in the 2013 ISF X Junior Women's World Championship, July 1-7, in Brampton, Ont.
