AUSTIN, Texas - Sara Cupp has been named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America Division I softball team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Cupp becomes the 10th student-athlete in athletics program history to receive this award which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
Cupp, a 3.85 graduate student majoring in Biology, was a also a 2015 Capital One Academic All-District V Softball First-Team and Horizon League First-Team selection.
During the Horizon League Championship, Cupp was named to the All-Tournament Team and garnered MVP and Batting Champion honors after hitting .750 with six hits and five RBIs to lead all players offensively overall. In the championship game against Wright State, Cupp belted a three-run home run in the sixth inning lifting Oakland to a 7-3 win and first Horizon League Championship in program history and third automatic NCAA bid since 2003.
Against Pittsburgh in the NCAA Tournament, Cupp hit a home run going 1-for-3 and in just one year, set the all-time single season record in RBI (44) and slugging percentage (.695) while ranking second in home runs (10) and doubles (13).
