TUCSON, Ariz. -- University of Illinois at Chicago catcher Nathan Orf and Wright State University relief pitcher Michael Schum have been named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America Team as announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Orf, a true freshman from Wentzville, Mo., was a 2009 All-Horizon League Second Team selection and All-Newcomer Team pick. He helped top-seeded UIC to a conference tournament runner-up finish and 29-23 overall record.
Orf finished his rookie campaign with a .429 batting average, 17 RBI and 25 runs in 36 games for the Flames.
Schum, a redshirt freshman from Bright, Ind., was the Horizon League's 2009 Relief Pitcher of the Year in addition to being named to the All-League Second Team and All-Newcomer Team. He helped third-seeded Wright State to a 33-30 overall record, conference tournament title and NCAA Tournament berth.
Schum wrapped his first collegiate season with a 5-7 record and 1.95 ERA in 34 appearances out of the Raiders' bullpen. He held opponents to a .225 batting average while striking out 57 in 74 innings.
