Outdoor Track & Field Weekly Awards Announced

INDIANAPOLIS – Youngstown State sophomores Michael Davis (Vienna, Ohio) and Kaitlyn Griffith (Orrville, Ohio) are the Men’s Track and Women’s Field Athletes of the Week and UIC senior Andy Wall (Metamora, Ill.) and Loyola senior Nicole Noelliste (Littleton, Colo.) earned Horizon League Men’s Field and Women’s Track Athlete of the Week honors.

Davis competed in the 100 meter and won the 200m(22.20) at the Sparky Adams Invitational last weekend in Berea, Ohio. He finished third out of 48 participants in the 100m(10.60), currently ranking him first in the League and fourth on Youngstown State’s top ten charts in that event.

Griffith also competed in the Sparky Adams Invitational. She won the hammer throw(53.48m) and took third-place in the discus(41.90). She currently leads the League in the hammer and is fourth in the discus.

Wall earned three first-place finishes last weekend helping the Flames win the Cougar Invitational. He competed in the triple jump(13.72m), high jump(2.03m) and 110m Hurdles(15.30).  Wall is currently ranked first in the League in the high jump and second in the triple jump.

Noelliste also competed at the Cougar Invitational, winning both the 200m and 400m. She recorded a personal-best time in the 200m(25.42), placing her sixth on Loyola’s all-time list and fourth in the League this season. She is currently third in the League in the 400m.

Loyola returns to action at the Drake Relays on April 28 in Des Moines, Iowa. Youngstown State is scheduled to compete on April 30, traveling to Ashland, Ohio to compete in the Ashland Alumni Open.UIC is competing at the Stan Lyons Invitational, hosted by Butler at the IUPUI Michael A. Carroll Track Stadium beginning at 5pm(EST) on Friday(April 30).

The 2011 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set for May 6-8 and will take place at the Michael A. Carroll Track Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., hosted by Butler University. More championship information can be found at www.horizonleague.com.
